In 1900, Clarke joined the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he spent the bulk of his career as both a player and manager. During his tenure, Clarke guided the Pirates to four of the franchise's nine National League pennants and led them to a World Series title in 1909. Renowned for his strategic acumen and fiery competitiveness, he retired with an impressive career slash line of .312/.386/.429 and a 68 WAR. As a manager, Clarke held the Major League record for wins for six years, amassing 1,602 victories with a stellar .576 winning percentage. Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1945, Fred Clarke remains a legendary figure in baseball history.
