Publisher: London: Archibald Constable & Co., 1909. Pages: vii, [1], 451, [1] pp. Dimensions (Approx): 25 x 18 cm. Illustrations: B/w illustrations throughout. Description: First edition bound in quarter red morocco and (original?) red cloth-covered boards, spine with five raised bands, gilt lettering to compartments. Binding generally sound with two small cup(?) marks towards foot of upper board, and narrow vertical mark by fore-edge. Sunned to spine and top of upper board. Text-block with some soiling to top edge, a little out of shape at spine and, consequently, to fore-edge. Pages lightly age-toned otherwise remarkably clean and tidy throughout. Overall, a very nice example of Davenport's study of armorial devices applied to the bindings of books. Please view images carefully to confirm condition.
