Adonts (1871-1942) examines Armenian-Byzantine relations in the fourth to sixth centuries, examines the problem of church organization in Armenia, determines the number of dioceses, traces the fate of the Church, depending on the historical situation in Armenia. For the first time in Armenian historiography, Adonts considers the issue of the Nakharar system as a form of feudalism. Justinian I (/dʒʌˈstɪniən/; Latin: Flavius Petrus Sabbatius Iustinianus Augustus; Greek: φλάβιος πέτρος σαββάτιος Ἰουστινιανός Flávios Pétros Sabbátios Ioustinianós; c. 482 – 14 November 565), traditionally known as Justinian the Great and also Saint Justinian the Great in the Eastern Orthodox Church,[2][3] was the Eastern Roman emperor from 527 to 565. During his reign, Justinian sought to revive the empire's greatness and reconquer the lost western half of the historical Roman Empire. Justinian's rule constitutes a distinct epoch in the history of the Later Roman empire, and his reign is marked by the ambitious but only partly realized renovatio imperii, or "restoration of the Empire" Nikolai Georgievich Adonts (1871-1942) - Armenian historian. Came from a peasant family. He received his primary education at the parish school at the Tatev Monastery, then entered the Etchmiadzin Theological Seminary. In 1892-1894. studied at the Tiflis Gymnasium, after graduation he was enrolled in the Faculty of History and Philology of St. Petersburg University. Adonts became one of the students of the orientalist N.Ya.Marr. He received a diploma and a medal for an essay on the Armenian lives of saints. Then N. Adonts studied in Munich and Tiflis, went to Etchmiadzin, where he worked in the repository of ancient Armenian manuscripts. Full member of the Russian Archaeological Society. In 1908 he published his master's thesis “Armenia in the era of Justinian. Political state on the basis of the Nakharar system”. In the same year he was elected Privatdozent of St. Petersburg University. In 1915 he received a doctorate in Armenian literature. In 1918 he was unanimously elected professor of the department of Armenian and Georgian literature at the First Petrograd University. In 1920, N. Adonts emigrated, and subsequently headed the chair of Armenian studies in Brussels.
