On Sale is a circa 1906 first edition, of * Birket Foster *, with 73 colour plates from the artist's works, plus 78 b&w illustrations of varying sizes including a frontispiece portrait, text by H. M. Cundall, I.S.O., F.S.A., published by A. & C. Black Ltd., London, printed by R. & R. Clark, Ltd., Edinburgh, [first published 1906] this one states "First published in 1906" to the Copyright page with no other editions or impressions listed, but is probably a further issue of the 1st edition as the initial run had gilt titles to the front as well as the spine (here front cover title and line decoration is in yellow), size approximately 9 inches x 6-1/2 inches, with xx and 216 pages plus illustrations and four pages of adverts. The cloth-covered hardcover with floral and line decoration to the front and spine in green, white, and yellow, plus a gilt spine title, is bumped and lightly rubbed on the extremities, sound and not split along the spine edges, fading and darkening to the spine area with gilt spine title reasonably bright and clearly legible, a little marked, has a single tiny insect hole towards the top of the rear spine-edge, otherwise reasonably clean and tidy (see photo's 1 & 5). Inside is complete, the front endpaper has a tiny split at the fold above the top hinge else largely the endpapers are sound and not split, has a previous owner's armorial-style stamp impressed to the front free endpaper, no other writing or graffiti, hinges sound with covers firmly attached, cracking at some of the gutters else binding tight with pages well attached, corners not turned and pages not torn, pale age-toning to the paper used for the text pages throughout with the illustrations bright as they're on a different type of paper, pale scattered foxing to a few outer text leaves else occasionally a few very pale specks and mostly clear, not heavily read, a little dustmarking to top edges, otherwise generally clean and tidy.
