He then delves into the massacre and looks into the lives of those who were killed, as well as talking to some of the missionary survivors. At the time it was believed that the governor of Shanxi, Yuxian, ordered the killings, but more recent research has leaned more towards mob violence.Compiled and Edited by Robert Coventry Forsyth, for was a missionary in Shantung for eighteen years. CONDITION In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Spine is a little faded. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Light marks to the spine and to the boards. A few spots to the fore edge. Small ink mark to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with some scattered spots to the first and last few pages. Title page and frontispiece are detached but present.
