Dated from Jisc 1904, the original Italian edition. Angelo Solerti's notable biographies of these incredibly important authors in the Italian Renaissance. Boccaccio and Petrarca, together with Dante, are part of the group known as 'Three Crowns' of Italian Renaissance Literature and Poetry due to the way their writing foreshadowed the dramatic change that the Western civilisation was about to undergo. The indexes are bound in to the rear of each volume, disrupting the pagination. Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume. CONDITION In a uniform half vellum binding over charming marbled boards. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and some darkening to the spine, as common, with some minor faint spotting. Lacking the title pages and publication information as they would be found in the Dante volume. Possibly in order to produce two uniform copies, the volume regarding Boccaccio has been bound in with a copious amount of blank leaves to the rear, as significantly shorter than the other. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor faint spotting to the edges, only affecting the occasional leaf, particularly the endpapers. Otherwise, the pages are generally bright and clean throughout. Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume. Overall Condition: Very Good GLOSSARY OF TERMS Overall Condition (Dustwrapper condition rating is shown after that for the book itself, where a dustwrapper is present) Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear Very Good Indeed - Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy Very Good - Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy Good - Meaning not very good.
