Description: I have here for sale a book entitled THE HISTORY OF LUMSDEN'S HORSE, a complete record of the Corps from its formation to its disbandment, edited by Henry HS Pearse, War Correspondent, with many portraits and other illustrations and a map. Published in 1903 by Longmans Green and Co. The Corps of irregular light cavalry was raised in India for service in Africa during the Boer War. There is a fold out colour map of South Africa, linen backed, at the rear of the book. Also there are 42 photographs usually one to a page, and numerous illustrations in the text.Quarter bound in maroon calf leather on buckram hardboards with five raised bands to the spine, worn and rubbed, gilt lettering for title and author. Library lettering of Lumsden's Horse and shelf number on the spine in white. Marbled endpapers, and ornate bookplate of City of Westminster Public Libraries. The only library marks on the book are the lettering on the spine, this bookplate, and a single Withdrawn stamp facing the first page - no marks anywhere else. Front hinge is cracked but both boards firmly attached and no pages loose or missing.
