With a letter from Herbert Vivian sent from Monte Carlo also included, dated 1890.'The Rambler' was a periodical founded and run by Samuel Johnson, running from 1750 to 1752. It largely discussed subjects including politics, morality, literature and religion, and was aimed at the rising middle-class of the eighteenth century. Johnson's aim was to bridge the gap between the classes, targeting the articles at those who were marrying into aristocratic families. This is the first volume of the Restored Rambler, comprised of weekly volumes from June 29th to September 21st, 1901. This revival was produced by English journalist and author, Herbert Vivian.Being the first volume since Samuel Johnson's 'The Rambler', this copy continues in pagination from the last installment from 1752.With a bookplate of the author's surname 'Vivian', to the front paste down. CONDITION Bound in the publisher's original pictorial cloth. Externally, very good, with light soiling and a little discolouration to the boards. Light bumping and rubbing to the joints and extremities, with cloth a little frayed to the head of the spine. Bookplate to the front paste down and ink inscription to front endpaper. Offsetting, light spotting and age toning to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
