Description: Aubrey Beardsley’s drawings to illustrate the tales of Edgar Allan Poe. With a portrait of the artist (Three plates + a portrait) NEW YORK. COLONIAL COMPANY. No date. Ca. 1901. 10 ¾ x 13 ¾ inches. Plates are about 5 x 8 inches (about 130 x 200 mm). The drawings and artist’s portrait are all mounted on boards. Drawings illustrate: The mask of the red death, The fall of the House of Usher, and The black cat. With captions on back. Original prints. Set from a portfolio published by Colonial Company around 1900 in limited copies. The exact number of printed copies or the date of the issue are unknown; estimates vary from 1895 to 1905 but most likely the portfolio was published around same time as the Stone & Kimball edition of 250 copies in 1901. Lacking folder; title page and the fourth plate, The murders in the Rue Morgue. Some edge wear/minor edge chipping to the mounts. Plates are very good. Very rare in any condition.
