Description: 1900 The Rise and Fall of Nauvoo B.H. Roberts HC 1ST EDITION Mormon LDS History __________________________________ The Rise and Fall of Nauvooby B.H. RobertsPublished by Deseret News Publishers (1900) Condition:Excellent 1900 First Edition Hardcover Book! The binding is tight and all 457 pages within are bright white with NO WRITING, UNDERLINING, HIGH-LIGHTING, RIPS, TEARS, BENDS OR FOLDS with the exception of a missing title page which is very unfortunate. The information on the title page has been pencil-written on the blank page preceding where it should have been. I've compared this to another with the title page and it is the exact same book. All other pages are present and clean with no marks. The covers look excellent with light-medium wear, as can be seen in my photos. Priced accordingly. You will be happy with this one! Always handled and packaged with care! Buy with confidence from a seller who takes the time to show you the details and not use just stock photos. Please check out all my pictures and email with any questions! Thanks for looking! About the Book:This book is a detailed historical account of the founding, growth, and eventual decline of Nauvoo, Illinois, a key city in the early history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Published in 1900, the book explores how Nauvoo was established in 1839 by Joseph Smith and early Mormon pioneers after their expulsion from Missouri. At its peak, Nauvoo became a prosperous city with a population of around 12,000 and served as a major center for the Church. Roberts examines the religious and political life of Nauvoo, including the construction of the Nauvoo Temple and the introduction of important LDS practices. He also discusses the city's semi-autonomous status, with its own charter and militia, the Nauvoo Legion. However, rising tensions between Mormons and their non-Mormon neighbors eventually led to Joseph Smith’s arrest and assassination in 1844, contributing to the city's decline. The book chronicles the escalating violence and the eventual decision by Brigham Young to lead the Latter-day Saints in a mass exodus from Nauvoo in 1846, marking the end of the city as a Mormon stronghold. Roberts provides a scholarly and thorough analysis of this critical period, making *The Rise and Fall of Nauvoo* an essential resource for those studying early Mormon history and the life of Joseph Smith.
