Description: 1900 McKinley vs Bryan 16:1 Unique Textile Display. Incredible folk art textile featuring William Jennings Bryan and William McKinley and paying tribute to the 16:1 silver/gold standard political issue of the day. This is not a mass produced piece! It is a unique piece that really in many ways falls in the category of folk art but is political in content, and made with such high quality standards and perfection, one has to look closely to realize it is not a manufactured piece (which if it were, would be fine! But it is not). Very rare to find any folk art textile of this quality, let alone from this era, or with such visual and political collecting appeal. This belongs on someone’s wall (or in a museum!) I have had this hanging up for decades. This textile was purchased by me directly from the family of legendary collector Morris Shenk over 30 years ago. Though dated “1901-1904”, it is a virtual certainty this was made during the campaign precisely in 1900 (as McKinley was assassinated in 1901. The “1901-1904” dates represent the expected tenure of the administration of the victorious candidate). I can’t easily determine how this was even made. It is very elaborate and mixed media. Much is sewn. It’s a fascinating piece artistically. Beautifully framed to dimensions of approximately 25 inches square. This is a gorgeous display piece that would be a prize addition to several different types of collections (political, American Folk Art, and textiles).
