Description: 19th Cent. Wood Firkin with Cover & Wood Handle in Red Paint. The Firkin is made from poplar with interlocking edged staves and a single piece bottom. It is held together with three ash hoops with tapered fingers.The cover also has an ash hoop with a tapered finger.The Firkin has a 9" diameter at the top and 10" diameter at the bottom. It is 9 3/4" tall (13" tall with handle up). The firkin with its original top, is painted red on the outside of the body and cover. The bottom is painted gray. It has been left natural on the inside. Condition: The Firkin is in good stable condition commensurate with its age and use. The cover does have a crack that appears to have an old repair. There is chip on the cover and on the side of the bottom rim. There are imperfections in the red paint showing possible gray paint underneath. Please look carefully at the photos.
