Old chromolithography "The Red Boy" after Sir Thomas Lawrence Dimensions with frame: 16.9 x 13.8 in Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769–1830) was a prominent English portrait painter who gained recognition at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. From an early age, he demonstrated an exceptional talent for drawing, and by the age of 10, he began creating pencil portraits. His career took off in 1792 when he became the court painter to King George III, following the death of Sir Joshua Reynolds. Lawrence painted portraits of many influential figures of his time, including members of the royal family, aristocracy, and politicians. His works were distinguished by their elegance, vivid depiction of personalities, and meticulous attention to detail. In 1815, he was knighted, and in 1820, he became the President of the Royal Academy of Arts. His portraits are now regarded as some of the finest examples of British portraiture. The painting is set in a beautiful, handmade frame covered with metal leaf.The frame is not part of the auction but is included as a free addition to the painting.
