Description: ORIGINAL 18th CENTURY FRENCH ETCHING Study of a face in profile. After a composition by DOMENICHINO Engraved by JEAN-FRANCOIS POLETNICH (French, active 1750-1780). Published in 1755 in Jombert's "Methode pour apprendre le dessin..." Signed/inscribed in the plate at the bottom right "Poletnich Sculp", with the inscription to Raphael at bottom left corner. Size of the platemark area is approx 23.5 x 18 centimetres, with adequate margins beyond. CONDITION. Good. No holes or tears. Sundry handling marks all entirely consistent with age. The platemark is intact and visible, with adequate margins around it. Printed on "laid" paper. Papermaker's watermark/filgrane in the form of a shield visible. See my photo on the lightbox.
