Description: A fine two part Chippendale cherry highboy in its original warm finish, the upper case with a molded cornice surmounting three small fitted top drawers over four graduated long drawers, each with period oval brasses, flanked by reeded quarter column pilasters over a lower case with a molded waist and two long drawers, continuing with quarter column pilasters, supported by four short cabriole legs terminating with pad feet. The chest is a rare form in this configuration and dates to the 18th century, probably Connecticut River Valley in origin, and is in very good condition, with minor molding restorations, shrinkage cracks, minor edge losses, and other imperfections and light wear commensurate with age and use. Brackets were added to the base for stability probably sometime in the 19th century. Dimensions: 73.75 in H x 42.75 in W x 23.5 in D.
