Description: This wonderful sepia stipple engraving was produced by Charles Taylor in England during the late 18th century, circa 1790. Charles Taylor (b 1756 – d 1823) was an English engraver who studied under Francesco Bartolozzi. Taylor worked in London; his house was burnt down during the Gordon riots in 1780. The sepia engraving features a male and female dancing, with figures dancing in the background and a boy (pan) sat in a tree playing a flute. The text at the bottom of the paper reads ‘G Taylor excudit.’The print is housed behind glass in the most decorative pressed brass frame. There is an old previous owner’s inscription to the backing board from 1815. This is a quality, decorative item that will display excellently.Measuring: Frame width 5 1/8 inch (13 cm) by height 6.25 inch (16 cm). Aperture width 3 3/8 inch (8.5 cm) by height 4 3/8 inch (11.5 cm).Condition: An old repair to the top and bottom edge of the frame, small paper tear at 12 o’ clock.ITEM ID:12330A
