Description: 1899 Charles Dickens NICHOLAS NICKLEBY Barnaby Rudge HARD TIMES Signed Limited This is a lot of four hardcover books from a 20-volume Devonshire Edition of "Charles Dickens's Complete Works," published by George D. Sproul in 1899. Each volume is a signed, hand-numbered, limited edition of 84l (out of 1,000). The titles are: "Nicholas Nickleby" (Volumes III & IV ), and "Barnaby Rudge" and "Hard Times" (Volumes IX & X). "Hard Times" follows "Barnaby Rudge" in Volume X, although it is not mentioned on the spine. The illustrations are by BOZ, also known as George Cruikshank, a popular English illustrator. Each book has a black and white frontispiece with tissue guard plus a few additional b/w illustrations within the text. Binding is green cloth with gilt lettering/design on the front boards. Each book measures 8 1/2" by 6." Condition of these antique books is only Fair to Good with overall wear, as pictured. The two volumes of "Nicholas Nickleby" show more wear than "Barnaby Rudge." The netting is visible at both hinges on both books of Nickleby and there are a few detached pages at front and back. (Final photo shows the front hinge of Vol I of Nickleby.) All four books have a small 1 1/2" square book plate of Charles Wesley Turner. Inside, the pages are clean with no unwanted writing, but may have an occasional short tear.
