Description: "LES JARDINS D'ARMIDE" Elegant "Belle Epoque" ladies, depicted in profile, taking a stroll through the lush Parisian gardens. Original lithograph, 1897, from the watercolour by GEORGES DE FEURE (1868-1943) Original lithograph published in "The Studio" 1897 as a Special Supplement. The lithograph was produced directly from the artwork submitted to the Editor by De Feure, for publication to showcase his work and to show the magazine's awareness of, and affinity with, the latest trends in graphic art both in UK and further afield. Unsigned, but the attribution to GdF is cast-iron solid. Fully verified: the all-important blindstamp of "The Studio" is just below the image line bottom right. The original inscribed tissue-guard is included in the sale. For yet further validation I will include the contents page of the original issue with the sale. Condition: Very good. No problems at all. Wonderful colours, carefully blended, to produce bright yet subtle muted tones without looking garish. The natural age-toning of the paper adds to the effect. [Much reproduced, but nothing comes close to this original.] Lithography at its very best, never surpassed. Size: Main image area is 18.5 x 14.5 centimetres. Good wide margins beyond, to give a total sheet size of roughly A4 dimensions. ***VERY SCARCE ITEM*** Marketwatch: See my final photo. About the artist: Georges de Feure was a pseudonym for the artist's real name Georges Joseph van Sluijters. He was a French painter, theatrical designer, and industrial art designer in the symbolism and Art Nouveau styles.De Feure was born in Paris to a Dutch architect father and Belgian mother. De Feure had two sons, Jean Corneille and Pierre Louis, in the early 1890s with his mistress Pauline Domec and a daughter with his first wife Marguerite Guibert. In 1886, de Feure was admitted to the prestigious Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, which he did however leave very quickly for Paris since he felt that formal academic training had nothing to offer him. Being of very independent nature, de Feure never again took up formal artistic studies, and forged his own independent path. He was however influenced by Jules Chéret in his posters for the café concert but most likely was never his pupil and became the key designer of Siegfried Bing for L'Art Nouveau. The source: Published by "The Studio" Magazine 1897. Hence "lifetime". The Studio was a lavishly-produced, prestigious monthly celebration of art, to which leading and promising artists offered examples of their work. Some were commissions from the editor, too. Whistler, Beardsley, Waterhouse, Vallotton are just a few of the artists whose original graphic work was featured. The publication took lithography to new heights in the 1890s, producing superb quality images. It was a vital showcase for the work of graphic artists, who had very little opportunity to display their work in the mainstream exhibitions which were dominated by oil painters. ***ALL OF MY ITEMS ARE SHIPPED, BOTH FOR U.K. and INTERNATIONAL BUYERS, VIA ROYAL MAIL TRACKED SERVICE - FOR EVERYBODY'S PEACE OF MIND.
