1890 Morgan Dollar NGC MS62, Obv. Close to DMPL, Supple Cameo, Should Be PL

Description: For your consideration ... ... an 1890-P Morgan Dollar certified MS 62 by NGC. Thought not noted on the label, this coin is also a VAM 26 (see below for more information.) For whatever reason, we've dealt with quite a few semi-proof-like Morgan Dollars lately and this one is no exception. In fact, it really should be graded PL, as the obverse mirrors are virtually at DMPL depth and the reverse mirrors, while weaker, still appear to reach well into PL territory. The obverse is not "blast-white" like many proof-like devices -- this one has more of a supple, matte-like appearance -- but it nonetheless has a relatively thick, well-defined cameo and contrast that is plenty stark, especially in full light. And even more especially for an 1890. Cameo contrast becomes somewhat scarce on PL and DMPL Morgans starting around 1886. Re-submission to try and get the PL bump is an option for this coin, though it would stand the best chance at ANACS or ICG. A PL designation would make this a $225 coin, give or take, based on recent sales. Of course, grading is a subjective business, so you never know how one grader will judge it over another. But if you don't mind risking the grading fee, it's a solid re-submit candidate. Numerical Grade As for the numerical grade, it is accurate -- with strike, chatter and eye appeal all in line with the typical select uncirculated Morgan. Contact marks, some chafe and a few runs can be seen on Liberty's face, though they are much less noticeable in hand. The fields show typical bag marks but nothing that stands out or draws the eye. The reverse has a little bit of hazy build-up that limits cameo contrast, though in direct light, contrast still becomes very clear. While the obverse is certainly stronger, the reverse has solid eye appeal. VAM 26 Though not noted on the label, this coin is a no-doubt VAM 26. Part of VamWorld description says it has a "possible" 1 in the denticles below the date, but there's nothing "possible" about it on this coin -- with a loupe or other magnifier, the top of the 1 is clearly and easily visible jutting up between the two denticles just below the 8. This VAM also features clusters of some small but pretty impressive die lines, with the feature spilling out on either side of the wreath bow and to the next to the eagle's right (viewer's left) leg on the reverse, between the cotton bolls on the obverse and a few other spots. Obviously, most of these are visible only with a loupe. The small, telltale line between the two seams at the top of Liberty's headband is present, confirming it as a VAM 26. +++ Thank you for checking out our listings. If you have questions about this or any item, please let us know. We are a small, family-run business and are happy to assist fellow collectors and dealers, whether you buy from us or not. And don't forget to check out our other listings. We usually have a dozen or more items for sale at any given time. +++ PLEASE NOTE: Due to the recent spate of fraudulent returns on eBay in the U.S. and other countries, all returns are now opened in the presence of the local postmaster or postal carrier, and a certified notary public. This change does NOT affect our return policy in any way. Returns are still accepted for any reason as long as the item(s) are returned unaltered and undamaged. And refunds are still processed within 24 hours of the return's arrival (and almost always the same day.) You can find additional details of our return policy below, but if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us through ebay. Thank you for your continued support of Shenandoah.blue. +++ RETURN POLICY: We accept returns for any reason up to 30 days after your item arrives, as long as it is returned undamaged, unopened and unaltered. Raw DMPL or PL coins may still be returned if they have been taken out of their cardboard flips, as we understand the importance of being able to check mirror depth without the distortion of the reflective mylar. However, coins must then be re-secured in a new cardboard flip or mylar holder and returned otherwise unaltered. When we say we offer no hassle returns for any reason, we actually mean it. Don't like your item? No problem. Change your mind? No problem. Found a better price? No problem. Run it through the wash? ... eh, yeah, that would be a problem. But almost anything else — that's right, no problem. Refunds, which consist of 100 percent of the purchase price (we don't charge "restocking fees"), are usually processed the same day the returned item is delivered, and always within 24 hours. If you wish to return an item, please give us the opportunity to make things right before you leave negative or neutral feedback or open a return case with ebay. You can always go back and open a case or leave negative feedback later if you are not satisfied. We strive to not only meet expectations, but to exceed them. We do not play games with return policies, shipping costs, photos or item descriptions. And we always list the good, the bad and the ugly in all of our listings so you have the information needed to make an informed purchasing decision. Thank you for reading and for looking at our items. If you have any questions about our listings, or our return or shipping policies, please feel free to contact us. We are happy to answer any questions you might have, whether you purchase an item from us or not. Thanks again.Sincerely,Shenandoah.Blue
