Description: Offered here is a chromolithograph Easter card by the renowned Polish-born American lithographer, Louis Prang (1824-1909). Initially a lithographer, after spending time in Europe during the Civil War Prang developed the process of chromolithography to make images that had the appearance of oil paintings. He sold his first chromolithograph in 1866. During another European sojourn, the wife of his British agent suggested that he consider creating cards for Christmas. Upon his return to the United States, he introduced the first Christmas cards in this country in 1875 which were very successful. Following up on the success of his Christmas cards, Prang introduced Easter cards. This is the only such card I have encountered. It is a lovely landscape although I do not know what, other than its spring-like appearance, distinguishes it as an Easter Greeting. The dimensions of the small card are 2 7/8 inches in height by 4 inches in width. This print is from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off. Please read the condition description carefully and review the photographs. Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints, art and other items that I sell are not "reproductions". For example, offered maps are of the period. I do my best to accurately describe the items being sold, but if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. Please check my other listings for additional items of interest. I will combine shipping.
