Description: Cedar Rapids, special finish card, husband seated, wife standing. Typical 1880s suit, shoes, dress, hair, in excellent condition, very crisp Item 484581 ◊ c1887 Cabinet Card - Husband and Wife in Elegant Period Clothing, from Cedar Rapids, IA A rare and original, "c1887 Cabinet Card - Husband and Wife in Elegant Period Clothing, from Cedar Rapids, IA." It is an outstanding, period cabinet card photograph, which measures approx. 5-1/2" X 4" (14 cm X 10.5 cm.) and is mounted on its original beige Card Mount , which measures approx. 6-1/2" X 4-3/8" (16.5 cm X 10.5 cm.) At the bottom of the card gives the photographer's information: Buser, Cedar Rapids, IA , "extra finish”, cabinet image This fascinating photograph shows the husband seated on a typical victorian prop wall, and his wife standing next to him leaning on an ornate pedestal. Everything in this photo screams 1887, from the husband's hairstyle and well-groomed moustache, to his shoes and pants, his pocket watch, and the single-button jacket, opening wide at the bottom. The wife's dress is shows a skirt with a gather to the side, a clearly corseted waist, and a smooth top and sleeves. Also typical is her slicked-down hairstyle. The fingerless gloves, or "hand mitts," as they were called, complete the picture. If we could see behind her, I guarantee there would be a small bustle (as the bustle was just starting to go out of style.) We all know that the exposure time in the early days of photography was very long, so the subjects of the photo had to hold very still. But in my humble opinion, people now-a-days have been having their photos taken since the day they were born. They have lot of photos taken of them when they are children, and most of them love to "ham it up." It was a special occasion when people had their photo taken in the early days of photography, so often they look quite awkward and stern, as if their muscles are getting tired from having to hold still so long. This fascinating "Cabinet Card Antique Wedding Photo" is in excellent condition. No fading at all. The details are very clear and crisp. There is no surface damage, edge or corner wear to speak of. The back is a different story. There are some brown marks. It appears that someone handled the back with glue or ink on their hands. Fortunately for us, it is not the important side. Please see all of the photos above to confirm the condition of this photo. A very unique and wonderful, " c1860's Cabinet Card - Husband and Wife in typical Period Fine Clothing," and a fantastic addition to any collector of 19th Century photos, or history buff from Iowa. ---------------------------- Be sure to check out our additional listings for a number of other Victorian photos and documents which are also being offered for sale this week, and in the coming weeks by PENchantiques on eBay. 080524-Ns OUR POLICIES COMMUNICATION: We want you to be happy with your transaction, and GOOD COMMUNICATION is the key to YOUR HAPPINESS.
