Description: George Walker The Costume of Yorkshire A Series of 40 Facsimiles of Original Drawings, with descriptions in English and French. In the original parts: 10 atlas folio livraisons contained in a folio. Publ. Richard Jackson, Leeds. 1885. 40 fine colored lithographed plates. Originally printed in 1814: A particularly nice example. While the binding folio is torn and battered, the parts themselves are absolutely splendid, with no tearing, staining, foxing, etc. There is some show-through to the backs of the plates, which are interleaved. The English and French descriptions are each printed on separate folio sheets. George Walker was born at Killingbeck Hall, Seacroft, on 8th May 1781. After being educated in York, Walker became an artist. At first he concentrated on local, rural landscapes. Walker developed a reputation as a good artist and in 1814 and a local bookseller commissioned a series of paintings for the book Costume of Yorkshire. The book contained forty pictures of local people including: The Horse Dealer, Cloth Makers, The Collier, The Cloth Dresser, Stone Breakers, The Milk Boy, Whalebone Scrapers, Wensley Dale Knitters, Leech Finders, Sheffield Cutler and Factory Children. The book also included the first ever painting of a locomotive. The picture was of Salamanca at Middleton Colliery that had been produced by John Blenkinsop and Matthew Murray. . Please use the zoom feature to examine the items carefully. I answer all questions promptly, and I appreciate having any errors I may have made corrected. (Even though I have been buying and selling prints for nearly forty years, I continue to be amazed at how much I don’t know.) I ship within one business day of receiving payment. I normally use flat packaging, Prints over 20” in length I will ship in a tube, unless the weight of the paper makes rolling inadvisable. If a buyer has particular shipping preferences he or she should contact me prior to making payment. Domestic Shipping: I ship most domestic orders either by insured USPS Priority mail, or First Class insured. My shipping charges reflect this cost. I am willing to mail in more economical ways at the buyer’s request, but if the buyer asks to waive insurance, I cannot assume responsibility for any loss or damage. I combine shipping charges on multiple sales, so buyer should wait for my invoice at the end of the auction. If the buyer wishes to make special arrangements for shipping, he or she should contact me before paying. Books: Media Mail is eBay’s default shipping method for books, and the only shipping charge permissible. Other shipping methods are available. I will provide an alternative with the invoice I send. The buyer can choose which to pay. International Shipping: I normally ship by First Class Mail. This is the most economical way to safely ship internationally, but there is no insurance available. In case of loss, I am only able to provide proof that the item was, indeed, shipped. If the buyer would like his or her purchase insured, International Priority Mail is available, but at a higher price. I recommend this option when the item is large and/or valuable. Buyer should contact me before payment is made. Payment: Please pay through PayPal. I would like to receive payment within five days of the auction closing. It often happens that a buyer will ask me to wait because he or she is interested in bidding on other lots. I am always willing to wait, but I do like to hear from the buyer if payment is to be delayed. Customer Satisfaction is very important to me. If there are any issues with an item purchased from me, I want to hear about it right away, and I will make every attempt to resolve the issue. Any item may be returned to me for a full refund, only with the buyer paying return shipping. Be sure to write first. Your feedback is the way I know that you have received your purchase and are satisfied. Please take the time to leave feedback for me. It helps me and it helps other buyers.
