Whitchurch Sadler Publisher: Griffith & Farran, LondonPublication Date: 1884Condition: Good ITEM DESCRIPTION Today we are pleased to offer this nicely preserved volume by Samuel Whitchurch Sadler! A great find from a local New England estate! This scarce antique first edition is over 140 years old! A rare volume to find in any condition! In nice condition overall! Original publisher cloth binding shows some wear, including rubbing and soiling to the boards and spine, general wear around the extremities including bumping to the corners and spine extremes, and some rubbing and soiling to the page edges. Volume is also slightly cocked. Otherwise this is an attractive, well-preserved antique volume! Gilt title lettering to the spine still displays nicely from the shelf despite rubbing and soiling. Internally, this volume is in good shape as well. There is a bit of cracking to both the front and rear hinges, however both boards and all page groupings remain attached to the binding. Gift inscription and signature in pencil visible on free from endpaper, and extensive writing in pencil visible on the back of the frontispiece illustration. Otherwise clean with no bookplates or library markings to note. The text block of this volume is clean throughout. There is typical age-related toning to the pages, as well as some light foxing and soiling scattered throughout, and some general light edge wear, but otherwise this volume is clean and free from rips, tears, writing and markings. Perfectly readable throughout! Illustrated with a frontispiece engraving and two full page engravings. Make sure to see the photos above for complete details. 197 pages with 15 pages of publisher advertisements in back. Measures approximately 8 3/4 inches tall by 6 inches wide by 1 1/2 inch thick.
