Additional Information Produced by one the most regarded and prolific birds-eye perspective illustrators, Henry Wellge, this stunning depiction of Niagara Falls in the late nineteenth century shows the city's iconic falls and surrounding urban environment in a period of significant growth, transformation, and prosperity. Industrialists and scientists had been drawn to the town throughout the nineteenth century to harness the power of the mighty falls for inexpensive hydroelectric projects that spurred on a thriving manufacturing industry that would last for more than a century. The spectacle of the falls, which moves more water than any other waterfall in North America, has also spurred a flourishing tourism industry for three centuries. Niagara Falls, New York, was experiencing a period of considerable prosperity by 1882. Immigrants flocked to the city from across Europe, the American South, and Ireland to establish communities based on cultural lines, many of which exist to this day. Wellge's distinctive aesthetic and unique style immediately transport the viewer back in time, creating an indelible bond between the past and present. Wellge was among the most productive perspective illustrators, and along with five other artists, is responsible for creating more than half of all panoramic maps in the Library of Congress during the late nineteenth century. Following the conclusion of the American Civil War and as advances in steel production and construction spurred on the nation, Niagara Falls was becoming one of the most prosperous cities in Western New York, along with Buffalo only seventeen miles to the south. Our museum quality giclee print comes printed with archival ink on premium heavyweight matte paper. Shipped in a sturdy cardboard tube your print will arrive ready to be framed. This eye-catching vintage map reproduction print makes the perfect gift for anyone that loves history and imagery.
