Description: Cabinet card photograph of the opera singer Clara Louise Kellogg, by Mora of New York City, circa 1880s. The bust portrait view, identified on the reverse in pencil simply as Miss Kellogg, shows a young woman posing for her likeness in a photographic studio. This is Clara Louise Kellogg (1842-1916). Born in Sumterville, South Carolina, Miss Kellogg studied at the Academy of Music in New York City and first sang opera in 1862. A gifted soprano, she won some notoriety and performed as Prima Donna in Italian operas in England in the late 1860s. She spent most of her long career in the United States and retired when she married in 1886. She died in New Hartford, Connecticut, in 1916. The cabinet card is in good to very good condition with only light wear and soiling. A very nice image of an early opera singer!
