Original handwritten letters, on various stationery (some with printed address headers), all in black ink and either signed at foot or written in third person. Dated between 1878 and 1880. Written one one side of 8vo, with the blank verso laid on clipped album card. Signed at foot. Undated but circa 1880-81. 'Let me be among the many friends who offer their congratulations on the personal honour graciously bestowed by Her Majesty.'[3] Spencer Horatio Walpole (British Conservative Party politician who served three times as Home Secretary in the administrations of Lord Derby, 1806-1898). Written on one side of blue tinted 8vo. Signed at foot. Dated May 22nd 1880. 'I shall be most happy to present your petition against the Vaccination Bill...'.[4] Roundell Palmer (1st Earl of Selborne, English lawyer and politician. He served twice as Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain, 1812-1895). Written on 3 sides of a bifolium of 8vo. Signed at foot 'Selborne'. Dated April 18th 1878. 'When the Medical Bill is in committee, I will do my best to be present...'.[5] George Robinson (1st Marquis of Ripon, British politician and Viceroy and Governor General of India who between 1861 and 1908 served in every Liberal cabinet, 1827-1909). Written on one side of a bifolium of 8vo. Written in third person in Robinson's hand. Dated May 15th 1878. [6] Algernon Percy (6th Duke of Nothumberland, British politician, 1810-1899). Written on one side of a bifolium of 8vo, rear page laid down to clipped album card. Written in third person in Percy's hand. Dated at foot 18th May 1878. 'The Duke of Northumberland regrets that a previous engagement will prevent him having the honour of dining with the President and fellows of the Royal College of Physicians...'.[7] Anthony Ashley-Cooper (7th Earl of Shaftesbury, British Tory politician, philanthropist, and social reformer, 1801-1885). Written on one side of a bifolium of 8vo. Signed at foot 'Shaftesbury'. Dated Nov 29th 1879.
