All edges gilt.Written by siblings Charles and Mary Lamb, this enormously successful work retells the Shakespearean plays for a young audience. Mary Lamb was responsible for retelling the comedies and Charles the tragedies; each of them strove to retain as much Shakespearean language as possible but they omitted the more complex historical tales. Originally published in 1807, this illustrated edition was published in 1876. Illustrated with a frontispiece and eleven plates reproduced from The Boydell Gallery. Collated, complete. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with the odd spot throughout.
