Bound in green full coarse grained, gilt decorated, morocco leather by Riviere & Son, all page edges gilt, elaborate inner gilt decoration to the spine, both boards and inner dentelles, with the binders stamp in gilt to the base of the front paste down, maroon end papers. A fairly common title in a beautiful binding. With the original cloth board covers bound in at the end. These two volumes were often bound by the prestigious binders of the time. Faults: Worn, rubbed and cracked to the external joints, internal hinges are sound. Pagination: (Old Christmas) xiv, [ii], 165pp; (Bracebridge Hall) xiv, 284pp plus 4pp of adverts. Provenance – no inscriptions or bookplates. Approximately 7 ¼ inches tall (18.5cm). Condition Report Externally Spine – very good condition – gently faded, gilt titles and decoration, five raised bands, minor marks and scratches.Joints – poor condition – rubbed, worn and cracked.Corners – very good condition – worn.Boards – very good condition – green morocco leather, gilt decoration, minor marks and wear.Page edges – very good condition – all gilt.See above and photos.
