1876 Bell Gold Mining Company of Dubuque, IA Stock Certificate Book!

Description: Up for bid is a stock certificate book for the Bell Gold Mining Company in Dubuque Iowa! Three prominent citizens of Dubuque established a company to mine gold in Plumas County, California. The area that was mined was near what was then called Elizabethtown. Elizabethtown no longer exists, but there is a historical marker in the original location of the town which is about 2.5 miles north of Quincy, CA. The book is nearly complete. Originally, the book has 475 certificates. Certificates 1 through 156 were issued, 139 of those were later returned, cancelled, and affixed to the appropriate stub in the book. Certificates 157 through 390 were not issued and are blank as are the next 10 non numbered certificates. (Certificates 391 through 400 have no red numbers)Certificates 401 through 422 were issued and 18 of those were later returned, cancelled, and affixed to the appropriate stub in the book. Certificates 423 through 475 were not issued and are blank. The issued certificates date from May of 1876 to January of 1879. The book has evidence of age, storage, and use as shown in the pictures. The book measures about 16" by 9" by 2". The book and certificates were printed by the Krebs Lithographing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. We believe that this book contains the first stock certificates issued for this company. More stock certificates were issued for this company at later dates, but they were not of the same design.
