Description: This listing is for the photographed 1871 Six Pence Great Britain Die 18. Choice AU details, and a wonderful color. This coin has what appears to be a Die Crack (more info below) on Queen Victoria's Bust. This is the only example of such an error on 1871 Sixpence coins that we have been able to identify. This could be the very last coin made with die number 18. What is a Die Crack? The die crack error results from a fracture in the die, though no piece of the die actually breaks away (at least immediately after the crack forms). Metal can flow up into the crack, forming a raised line on the coin. Broken dies result from a tendency of some metals, particularly certain alloys of steel, to become incredibly hard, to the point of becoming brittle. 1875 Sixpence Great Britain, Die 18 - Choice AU - Die Crack on Bust - UK 6 Pence 1871 Sterling Silver Six Pence 1871, Unique Coin, Beautiful
