RRB -- Bowers, Dure & Company was founded in 1871 at Wilmington, Delaware, as a partnership between Thomas Wesley Bowers (1821- 1886+ ) and Henry F. Dure (1830-1910), who established their factory on the Brandywine River alongside the tracks of the Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore Railroad. By 1880, the Wilmington Car Works, as their plant was called, occupied 21 acres and employed 350, and was considered one of the most modern of its time, having facilities for shipping both by water and by rail.
