This hand-colored map is from the1875 Historical Atlas of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This atlas was compiled, drawn, and published from personal examinations and surveys by Everts and Stewart, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The map shows Penn township and shows roads, creeks, various towns and villages within the township, as well as the rail road tracks. It also shows the names of the land owners within the township and what looks like the size of their properties. It shows Pennville, White Oak, Mount Vernon and Unionville. The map also shows the creeks such as the Chickesalunga. The atlas itself had a total of 107 pages and 64 maps (including a map of the US and one of Lancaster County), along with a business directory of the cities, villages, and townships of the county. This was page 44 in the atlas. The back of the map, Page 43, shows drawings of various businesses and residences within the town of Columbia and Lancaster City such as F. Bucher's Store in Columbia as well as H. C. Demuth snuff and cigar manufacturing operation on King Street in Lancaster City. These are in black and white but well drawn. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A very nice high quality antique map. Please see photos to appreciate the beauty and condition of this piece. This is truly a nice decorative piece ready for framing to eventually hang on your wall or add to your collection. Condition: The map is in very good condition with foxing and general darkening along the edges. It does have holes on the right edge where it was held in the book. It also has several tears along the edges of the sheet, with the longest being about 1/2" in length but none reach the map itself. The sheet also has some minor creases and folds along the edges. Be that as it may the map is otherwise intact and non of the tears, folds and creases distract from its quality or beauty.
