T. Colebrook.Colebrooke was a British orientalist and a pioneer of the study of ancient Indian texts and languages, particularly Sanskrit. His essays include studies on Hindu law, Vedic literature, Indian philosophy, and the natural sciences. Volume II illustrated with a folding table.With the bookplate of Jakob Wackernagel of Basel to each front pastedown, and his inscription to the verso of the volume II front free endpaper. Wackernagel was a Swiss linguist, Indo-Europeanist and scholar of Sanskrit. Colebrooke has been described as "the first great Sanskrit scholar in Europe". CONDITION In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Bumping to back strip heads and tails, with fading to vol II and III back strips. Minor losses of cloth to volume I back strip head and tail. Rear joint of volume I starting, with board firmly held, but cloth somewhat tenderly adhered to back strip .Volume II front joint head, and rear joint starting, with volume II rear joint head starting. Boards holding firm. Two small horizontal splits in cloth to volume II back strip. Front hinge of volume I strained and a touch tender. Bookplates to front pastedowns, with former owner inscription to verso of volume II front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
