Description: This is an original CDV by H F PLATE of HAMBURG GERMANY that is HAND DATED 1870 and additionally hand annotated AURELIANO GONZALEZ TOLEDO - GENERAL CONSUL IN HAMBURG. This is original pencil hand writing as discovered when removed from the original photograph album of FANNY DUVE. The year 1870 predates by two years the recognised relationship between Germany and Colombia of 1872, demonstrating a strong and early relationship between these two countries. He is better known for his translation of historical political and military works but this CDV now shows he was also the general consul in Hamburg as well! HEINRICH FRIEDRICH PLATE (1824 - 1895) operated a photographic studio in Hamburg between 1858 and 1880. This may well be the only surviving and rare example of a photograph of this important colonial author, translator and legal representative.
