Description: 1869 Lebrun und Thaten Don Quixote von La Mancha Vol II Illustrated by Gustav Doré 430 Pages 14x11 8lbs 2oz From Wikipedia: “Paul Gustave Louis Christophe Doré: 6 January 1832 – 23 January 1883) was a French printmaker, illustrator, painter, comics artist, caricaturist, and sculptor. He is best known for his prolific output of wood-engravings illustrating classic literature, especially those for the Vulgate Bible and Dante's Divine Comedy. These achieved great international success, and he became renowned for printmaking, although his role was normally as the designer only; at the height of his career some 40 block-cutters were employed to cut his drawings onto the wooden printing blocks, usually also signing the image." Front and back covers are connected to spine. Spine is connected to binding. Gilding on spine faded. Cover is scuffed and corners are bumped. Binding is strong. Appears complete. Paper is supple and strong from edge to binding. Light to moderate spotting throughout. There are two stains on the top and edge of the pages that vary in size throughout the entire volume. The stains do not affect the plates but the spotting does. Only one page with a creased corner.
