Description: 1858 S 90% Silver Seated Liberty Dime for sale. The coin in the pictures is the exact coin you will receive. The date on this coin is only partially visible, however, if we look carefully at some of the details that are visible and use the process of elimination, we can be certain of the date of this coin, without being able to see any part of the last digit. S mintmarks were only found inside the wreath on this style in 1856, 1858, 1859 and 1860. All 1856-S dimes have a rather large S mintmark on the reverse, eliminating that as a possible date. If you look at the shape of the 1 in the date, it has a larger, thicker shape to it with a "flag" of the digit 1 that perfectly matches the style of 1858-S dimes. All 1859-S and 1860-S dimes have a thinner 1 with a small flag coming down from the tip. Also, if you look closely by the hole, part of the 3rd digit can be seen, which is the bottom open hook of the 5, eliminating 1860-S as a possibility. The size/shape of the S mintmark on the reverse is also a perfect match for 1858-S examples. I have included a photo comparing my coin with other 1858, 1859 and 1860 S dimes, showing the distinct difference in the top left part of the digit 1 in the date. The coin has been holed at some point and has some rim damage and a few marks. Please use the pictures to determine the grade and feel free to ask any questions that you have as there are no returns.
