Description: Attention Collectors and Poetry Lovers!!! You are bidding on a very rare and hardcover book titled Milton's L'Allegro And Il Penseroso. Magnificently Illustrated with Etchings on Steel by Birket Foster. Published in London by W. Kent & Co., 1858. This is the collectible First Edition. Book is fully bound in red leather with gold titling on spine. Spine has five raised bands. Title page in red and black. 24 numbered stiff-card engraved leaves. Each leaf features an etching accompanied with lines of verse in red text. This is a very rare book. The book is bound in full leather. It measures approximately 11" high and 7 1/2" wide. The leather binding is in very good condition. Covers are tightly bound with no cracking or splitting of hinges or gutters. Has intricate gold design on the inside perimeter of covers. All pages are tightly bound. Most of the pages have a soil mark at the top corner. It does not affect any text or engraved art. The title page has the most soiling with it being on right side of page. The first blank page has some scribbling from a ball point pen. Book has a tasteful previous owner bookplate belonging to Frederick Seymour Clarke. I have lowered the price of this book because of the soiling to the pages, otherwise this book would retail for hundreds of dollars. Would make a terrific addition to a collection.
