Description: Offered here is a bound volume of an interesting illustrated antique American magazine for the years 1854 and 1855– a monthly periodical with a strong Christian religious basis. Title page reads: The Mothers’ Journal and Family Visitant – Edited by Mrs. Mary G. Clarke Volume XIX and Volume XX – Published at 118 Arch Street, Philadelphia – 1854, 1855 Some of the interesting fictional and non-fictional contents include: The End of Female Education; Is the Wife to Blame?; Children’s Books; An Orphan’s Dream; Prayer for the Sailor; Winter Evening’s at Home; The Dead Infant; Letters From a Converted Heathen; A Scene in a Rail Car; Frank Maynard; The Demands of the Age; The Fatal Choice; The Comets; A Few Things About the Mothers of Toungoo; The Sandwich Islands; Tour of the West; Helen Safford; The Backwoods Girl; Parental Duties, Friendly Suggestions to Mothers; A Story for Charlie; and, The Mothers of Nantucket to name a only a few. There are also several pieces of poetry in each volume. There are several full page black and white illustrations in each annual volume. The 1854 volume is 386 pages long; the 1855 volume is also 386 pages in length. This 772 page plus, 9 by 6 by 2 ½ inch thick hardcover is in fairly good condition. Many pages are clear; but a fair number also are spotted. Someone in the past used the book to press flower and plant material so there are stains from this activity. There is spotting on the reverse side of some of the illustrations and in some of the front margin edges of the illustrations. The binding is solid. The decorative moiré paper over cloth and leather cover is quite worn along the edges and along the spine. Shipping Terms:We ship Worldwide - including the United States.
