Description: 1853 Burma silver 1 Kyat PEACOCK coin of King Mindon Min – pleasing dark patina! This 31mm coin weighs 11.56g of .917 silver purity and features the iconic peacock design. It was struck in 1214 (1853) for circulation throughout Burma (Myanmar) in the reign of King Mindon Min. Obverse: Peacock Left, Full Display Burmese Lettering: တံဆိပ်တော် Translation: According to Robinson & Shaw 'The coins and banknotes of Burma', p.92-93 the words on the obverse are 'Tazeik taw' or 'Royal stamp'. Reverse: Denomination Within Wreath. Burmese Lettering: ရတနာပုံနေပြည်တော် ၁ိသုံးဒင်္ဂါး Translation: the outer reverse legend is 'Yandabon Nepydiaw' or 'Mandalay the Royal residence'. The central inscription is 't'tjat thon dinga' or 'Use coin as 1 kyat' and the date below is 1214 Buddhist era, 1852-53 AD. Edge: Reeded.
