Description: The Ladies' Wreath: An Illustrated Annual, Edited by Mrs. S.T. Martyn, J.M. Fletcher & Co., New York, 1851, 452pp, 3/4 leather, 6 x 9", 8vo Fair condition. Wear and chipping to front and rear boards. Tips are bumped with exposed boards. Significant chipping on spine: 1st and 5th compartments completely chipped off. Text on spine is mostly illegible. Edges are scuffed. Front and rear hinges are cracked. Marginalia on title page. Full-color illustrated title page. Top of 31-34 has come loose from binding. Bottom of 439-450 has come loose from binding. Toning, age-staining, and tea-staining throughout textblock. 12 full-color illustrations of different flowers. Numerous full-page illustrations. Please see photos. The Ladies' Wreath was a monthly journal that ran from 1846 to 1855. Each issue included 36 pages of text, a steel engraving, and one hand-colored flower print. Sometimes there were a few pages of music. The journal was edited by Sarah Towne Smith Martyn, a retired temperance activist. After the first year, the journal had acquired 6000-7000 subscribers and eventually grew to as many as 25000 subscribers. FORN-MSB-0224-TUB0003-JC94
