Description: 1850 Silver Patch Box Engraved Scroll Design Reeded Bottom and Sides Made in Holland For Your Antique Silver Box or Patch Box Collection - HollandBox1 Details Description: Antique 1850 Silver square patch box with scalloped edges from Holland. The box is fully hallmarked and shows the letter "Q" for 1850. The box, which has a hinged lid, is decorated with engraved scroll design on the to of the lid and has reeded design on the bottom and the sides. Both the lid and the bottom a bit rounded (bombe), while the side walls are straight . The lid fits tightly on the bottom to close the box well. There is a protruding hinge on the back of the box. Please carefully view photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 1850. Origin: Holland or the Netherlands. Size: Measures ~1 7/8" by ~1 7/8" and is 1/2" high. The piece weighs about 27.2 grams or a bit less than 1 troy ounce. Maker: Abraham Kuijtc worked in Schoonhoven, east of Rotterdam in the Netherland. Marks: Marked "with a lion passant with 2 under it (for 833 silver), "Q" (for 1850), Minerva's Head (Duty Mark, and AK/22 (the Maker's mark for Abraham Kuijt)". Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A beautiful antique box to add to your collection. Condition: The box is in good condition. It has no breaks, repairs or losses, which is a miracle for 160 years old utilitarian box. The hinge is intact and works well and the box closes well and tight. The design on top is a bit worn from cleaning over the years. In addition, the box has minor dings throughout most pronounce on the bottom, but these do not really affect the beauty or quality of this great find. You can tell the box was used extensively by looking at the wear and the small dings. The piece could probably use a good cleaning, which we leave to the new owner.
