Description: From Mike Locke's calgoldcoin.com website: 1849 California Gold Token Minerva #1, SOUVENIR OF SACRAMENTO around obverse. Same reverse as 1849 Indian Souvenir #1. Bear #2 Shagy bear with a mane and lion's headGround underneathFancy floral pattern in front and behindDenomination in large letters in middle"CALIFORNIA GOLD" in arc across the topSeveral dies seen, each apparently hand cutLine drawing heads, but finer work than the bear #1 coins 1/2"/11.7mm x 0.3mm0.26 grams THIS IS A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO OWN A UNIQUE PIECE OF AMERICAN WESTWARD EXPANSION/GOLD RUSH HISTORY. THIS COMBINATION OF MINERVA AND "Souvenir of Sacramento" ON THE OBVERSE, WITH THE 1/2 SHAGY BEAR ON THE REVERSE (#1β,#2β), IS JUST NOT FOUND ON THE MARKET. ANYWHERE. NOT eBAY, NOT HERITAGE.COM. Look for yourself and do your due diligence. This is a very uncommon gold token. There are many examples of California Gold tokens on the market, but this combo, in this UNC condition, is just not found. Anywhere. I could not find this on any online auction site, just buried in the extensive research pages of Mike Locke's website. NGC has verified it's authenticity. *Note: This is a coin/token that you might want to consider having recertified to get a second opinion on mounting. It might add to the valuation. Coin mounts are usually either at only the 12 o'clock position, the 3,6,9, & 12 o'clock positions all-together, or a complete 3600. Mounts at the 3 o'clock position only, seems odd IMO. But then again, I'm not a professional coin grader. Just a thought.
