Bound in original fine blindstamped cloth with 'stained glass window' motif to covers. Covers reattached at hinge as shown. Front prelims before title page lost. Previous owner name to title page dated 1856. 112 hand tinted plates + one hand drawn example added in at rear. Some pencil annotations a the tops of some plates. Overall, about very good. This example owned, with his signature on title page, of noted Shakespearean scholar and antiquary John Wesley Hales. Hales was consulted on the creation of the 1897 Shakespearean stained glass window at Southwark Cathedral and its very likely why he heavily consulted this copy for design information relative to the window. Hales also reccomended the inscription below the 'Muse of Poetry' image. An interesting and historic book with an important provenance. Please email any questions -
