Description: 1848 LUIS NAPOLEON BONAPARTE FRANCE ELECTION BRASS TOKEN. Measured 23.47 mm diameter, 1.63 mm thick, .17 ounces. The token is in good condition with high relief but shows many wounds of over 170 years of "not so delicate" handling.Charles-Luis Napoleon Bonaparte, later known as "Napoleon III" was the nephew of Napoleon I. He was born on 20 April 1808 and died at the age of 64 on the 9th of January 1873. He became the first (and only) president of France, at the age of 40, as a result of the French Revolution. He served from 20 December 20, 1848 until 1852. He won his election by an overwhelming 74% of the vote. He was a Roman Catholic. The inscription on the reverse is in French: ELU PRESIDENT DE LA REPUBLIQUE 1848 (Elected President of the Republic 1848) This is only one of many different celebratory tokens and coins minted in his honor.
