They are NOT INCLUDED in this sale, but pictured for your consideration in case you may have an interest in them as a collector. These were among dozens of sets owned by the collector we obtained them from & we have more coming as time allows, including another "three arm Last of the Mohicans" as well. Wow! Terrific offering for someone wanting both beauty & a bit of early Americana. Cornelius & Company produced this candelabra and others in the mid 1800's & were well known for their decorative & useful household works. These would often be placed in front of mirrors to produce even more light & add beauty to the area in which they were placed. This features very detailed brass or cast metal figures in gilt gold tones & features reflecting the theme from James Fenimore Cooper's The Last of the Mohicans, published in 1826. Features 3 key characters from the novel, frontiersman Hawk-eye (also called Natty Bumppo) and two Native Americans (Uncas & Chingachgook from the novel). Has a fancy tree stalk & leaf backdrop & on the arms of candelabra & bobeches. Patent date is December 5, 1848, these candelabras are highly sought after & somewhat rare. There have been about 25 show up on eBay in the last 30 years. Some have identified these as Daniel Boone, but the Art Institute of Chicago which owns one, says it is from The Last of the Mohicans & so do the more knowledgeable antique dealers. The Elegant Early Victorian styling jumps out from these & they are a great compliment to any parlor, den, fireplace setting or other. 16 Antique crystal prisms are included, while they have some general wear, they add an additional splash of elegance. The white marble base has some staining & chips as shown in pictures, but still adds to the presence of these piece. When these candelabras were sold, they came with an option to purchase two side smaller side candle holders which were Major Duncan Hayward & Cora Munro (two other key characters from the book). A set with all 3 pieces sold for $2,000 on eBay on 2022. There are 6 sets of the Hayward & Munro's for sale on eBay now and not a single seller knows what they have, but if you search Cornelius candelabras you will find them (Munro is in hat, scarf & long pleated dress, Capt Hayward in a colonial hat, scarf & sword on his left side). They are priced from $115-$698. To be fair, I only discovered this after 8 hours of research, so I am not being critical of other sellers, but letting buyers know how they can have a full matching set for less than 1/2 the $2,000 paid a short while back. This was acquired from perhaps the top collection of such items in the country outside of a museum or certainly in the very tip top tier of such collections. Someone had removed the crystals from these when we obtained them, so we added some we had on hand. You can fiddle with the crystals as you wish or use your own as they only serve to compliment the piece. Each section could hold up to 10 crystals (50 total), but we thought that would be overwhelming to the piece and on the outer arms too many crystals may interfere with candle placement on the lower arms. We only dusted the item & with some cleaning this could be even more amazing, but some people really like these with patina, so we left as we found. We think is may be a combo of brass & bronze perhaps but are not sure. This is very good condition as seen in video & pictures. The only fix needed is some bonding agent for the screw hold on top bracket as it has become loose (stripped out) over the years. With minor effort, a new screw may be able to be placed in it as well as the one in it can be unscrewed, but we left it as found. The screw fits tightly into stem, it is the top screw opening that is stripped. A JB Weld or similar product may work well, but we will let the buyer decide. We are discounting this as it is not pristine as noted as these pieces can sell for over double our list price. The candle cups appear to be brass. None of the body of the statue sections, nor the cups attract a magnet. The only metal attracting to a magnet we found is on the screw & bolt that hold the base in place & the screws between the arms. As noted, this came from an extensive private antique collector's estate, complete with a full collection of candelabras from this era & hundreds of other items from antiquity. We left the prior auction tag on the marble base, that the seller had left in place from decades back. Frankly we have never seen as extensive of a collection in our 20 plus years' experience in dealing with antiques. When shipping, we will wrap the crystals safely apart from the holders in soft packing to protect them of course in shipping. Just be careful when reinstalling the crystals, they are fragile if dropped or if too much pressure is applied to them. This will be packed in a large heavy box, but we will mark it "Fragile" and other when shipping. Please Read: These will ship FedEx Home or Ground with signature required, so please plan accordingly. We can Ship with UPS or USPS as well if you prefer, but FedEx is usually cheaper on larger items. We ship with extreme care & all items are fully insured! We often take from 30-90 minutes packing more delicate & odd sized items to make sure your treasure is protected. We also photograph most items above $100 while packing in case a shipper were to ever damage an item (only 1 time in over 2,000 US shipped sales). For this reason, if an item is ever damaged, it will be the Buyer's responsibility to file a claim with the shipping service & we can provide photos from packing to assist Buyers. The process is not difficult, but the timing of such does not allow adequate time for the item to be returned to us & then for us to proceed with a claim (chain of custody questions can arise as well on returned items due to double shipping & handling so it is just easier for Buyers). So again, as noted in listing, we do not offer returns. Of course, there is free local pick up and we can meet to assist if you are near Indianapolis or driving through. We do this often. Also, we have discounts with FedEx & eBay on shipping which do not always show up in eBay estimates on shipping. We try to refund what we can when there is a notable difference, but we do not know until we actually process the shipping order.
