This listing is for original handwritten letter shown. From S. W. MIFFLIN to JOHN N. LANE of lancaster papostal stamp WRIGHTSVILLE PENNSYLVANIALetter offering water from his proprety above the bridge (possibly the Pequea Creek cover bridge built in 1845, but more likely for the improvements to the Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge) for "defense of the bridge". In the letter, Mifflin offers the use of depressions on his preperty above the bridge to be used as water reservoirs for the purpose of fighting fires. This would explain his meeting Mr. Lane at the bank, as the Columbia Bank and Bridge Company had built it originally, and the need for defense against fire, what with the addition of railroad tracks to the bridge 1845-46.Excellent original early family and/or town genealogy, history, antique, collectible heirloom and/or ephemera. autographCONDITION: See listing description and photos.- International buyers are responsible to pay VAT or other Taxes to their countries as required.- eBAY collects and remits sales tax on behalf of several states.
