Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Native American Creek Tribe Trail of Tears 1845 Vellum President Polk Secretarial Signed Land Deed, historical document, manuscript If I'm understanding this land deed, document, manuscript (and I remember my history right ) this land deed is during the "relocation" of Native American's and is taking the land from the 'Tus Ke Nugga Tribe' (I believe one of the Creek tribes) containing 641.92 acres and giving them to four different families. I translated the deed below to the best of my ability. Some of the names may not be spelled correctly. An interesting piece of history. Approximate measurements: 17" x 12" "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA To all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting: Whereas, Tus Ke Nugga on of the Creek Tribe of Indians, by virtue of a treaty by the United States, and the Creek Tribe of Indians, made the 24th day of March, 1832, became entitled out of the lands ceded to the United States by the said treaty, to Section twelve in Township twenty one of Range eighteen East in the (?)Tuskaloosa(?) Land District Alabama. Containing Six Hundred and forty one acres and ninety two hundredths of an acre. according to the official plat of the survey of the said lands, returned to the General Land Office by the Surveyor General, which said tract as appears from the conveyance thereof dated 31st, December 1835 with the approval of the President thereon, has been conveyed by the said Tus Ke Nugga to Strange(?), Cobb, Woodward, and Harris viz.(?): L.B. Strange, James L. Cobb, Thomas S. Woodward, and Peter C. Harris, and the said Strange, Woodward, & Harris having exicuted(?) an assignment dated May 18, 1842 in favor of Edward Hanrick and it appearing from the transcript of a decree rendered at the July term AD 1844 by the Court of Chancery for the 11th Chancery District & Southern Chancery Division of the State of Alabama that the said Cobb sold his interest in the said tract to the said Harris- that Harris assigned to Edward Hanrick and the interest of Samuel S. Cobb as the brother and only heir of said James P. Cobb & also the interest of the said Harris, or either of them, being by that decree vested in the said Hanrick, who was assigned on the 16th, October 1845 his interest to George Goldthwaite. and to his heirs, the said tract above described: To have and to hold the same, together with all the rights, privileges, immunities, and appurtenances of whatsoever nature thereunto belonging, unto the said George Goldthwaite and to his heirs and assigns forever. In testimony whereof, I, James K. Polk President of the United States of America, have caused these Letters to be made Patent, and the SEAL of the General Land Office to be hereunto affixed. Given under my hand, at that City of Washington, the thirty first day of October in the year of out Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty five and of the Independence of the United States the seventieth.
