Description: Here's a an early flint glass decanter with large bar lip and snapped off solid glass pontil; probably made by a Pittsburgh glasshouse in the 1840s or 1850s. Thick heavy flint glass; large applied shoulder ring. Measures about 10 1/2"tall x 4"across base....Sparkling attic near mint condition with no chips or damage just a few flea bite chips on the sharp edges. A nice shiny clean bottle with no haze. These are often called "Steamboat" decanters because they were popular on the steamboats going up and down the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. The larger bottom and heavy glass made it very difficult for this decanter to fall over, even when the going was rough
