It is an extensive work, complete in almost one and half million words. It describes occurrences in Europe from the deposition of Edward II in 1326 until 1400.Translated in 1806 by Thomas Johnes (1748-1816), an MP, writer, translator and social benefactor. He translated numerous other works from French, including Jean-Baptiste de La Curne de Sainte-Palaye's 'Memoirs of the Life of Froissart' and Jean de Joinville's memoirs.Complete in two volumes.Containing a life of the author, as well as an essay on his works and a criticism. Bound in contemporary leather, with decorative tooling to the spine, marbled edges and endpapers.Illustrated with wood-cuts throughout the text, as well as an illuminated title page. Externally generally smart; a repair to the spine of vol. I includes a prior lot number. Spines are a little rubbed and the boards are a little worn, with some bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages have the odd spot, but are otherwise bright.
