Description: Here is a very nice and seldom seen old political campaign token or medal made of a white metal composition, in quite pleasing condition overall, measuring app. 1 & 1/4" across, with a plain edge, and it has been neatly holed at the top. This interesting election piece shows just moderate wear, really, with only some light marks on the obverse nothing overly distracting, as the pictures hopefully indicate, and I have not done anything to clean or alter its appearance. Four of the photos have been "enhanced" for clarity, and the medal is identified in the DeWitt reference as WHH 1836-1, his earliest campaign item, the gentleman usually associated with his successful bid at the presidency in 1840. The obverse pictures the gentleman in uniform facing right, and around the portrait is "Major Gen. Wm H. Harrison." The reverse features an allegorical figure representing Liberty placing a laurel wreath upon a stack of arms, a drum, bow and arrows near her belt. She holds a halberd and rests upon an American shield, and "a decorated badge hangs from the stacked muskets", according to the author. Around the top is "Resolution Of Congress April 4. 1818.", with "Battle Of Thames - Oct. 5. 1813." at the bottom. Real American history! $260.
